This resort in Phrao has been catering to foreign visitors for around 12 years and while it’s quite far from town and signposts are few and far between, it can be found on Google maps and by following directions through the rice paddies from Pa Nai village. Doi Farang has 17 rooms in three styles: brick house, rice barn and Lanna house, plus a swimming pool and restaurant, and is surrounded by fruit orchards and rice fields. The German owner offers a variety of activities including trekking to Doi Mon Larn.

Lhong Khao is the old Lanna word for rice barn, and the traditional barns were made of wood and built in a unique shape with large, round wooden columns. Lhong Khao Resort has modified a number of old rice barns into guest bungalows while retaining the character of the traditional architecture. It offers 13 rooms at reasonable prices, most of them with a great view of Mae Tang.

Located about two kilometers from Phrao town on highway 1150, this place is run by a local family and offers different types of rooms at the back of the family home. The rooms are basic and there are no resort facilities but it’s a decent and clean place to stay in this remote town.
